Artist’s Statement

These new oil paintings are inspired by a series of bodywork I experienced called SOMA, which works to release tension in the deep tissues of the neuromuscular system. During my treatment, I began to sense the subtle energy and the unique language of the body. If the body could speak to you, what would it say? If you could see through the skin to what really lies beneath, maybe we would not be so hard on ourselves and could mend the fractures in our lives, allowing for something new. In these paintings, the mysterious figures make their way through an abstracted world and emerge from their somatic journey with lightness.
